TMJ is a hinge that connects your jaw to the temporal bones of your skull. Problems that may arise within your jaw is known as TMD ( a.k.a Temporomandibular disorder ).

There are many causes of this disorder.
Grinding or clenching your teeth, which puts a lot of pressure on the joint
Stress which can cause you to tighten facial and jaw muscles or clench the teeth
Movement of the soft cushion or disc between the ball and socket of the joint
Symptoms can include:
Clicking or popping of the jaw when opening and closing
Your jaw may get “stuck” or “locked in the open or closed position
The teeth may feel as if they are not fitting together properly
Treatments:
Having a night guard made to reduce the pressure on the joint while sleeping
Possible replacement of missing teeth or braces to correct the bite
