A root canal is a dental procedure done to save a tooth that would otherwise need extraction.
Restoring the smile you’ve been missing
This treatment involves a number of necessary steps to save your tooth. The tooth’s nerve or pulp is removed from the pulp chamber and root canal (the space inside the root). Each root canal is cleaned and shaped so it can be filled. Then, Dr. Suditu may place medicine in the pulp chamber and root canal to help rid the area of bacteria.
A temporary filling is then placed on the tooth after the root canals are filled with a rubber-like material. The temporary filling prevents contamination of the root canals. During the next stage of treatment, Dr. Suditu removes the temporary filling and restores the tooth with a crown or a filling to strengthen and improve the way the tooth looks.
If an endodontist preforms the root canal treatment, he or she usually recommends that you return to your general dentist for this next step.
